Braking Aluminum
rec.boats.building - 2 hours 47 min ago
I have a copy of Pollards aluminum boat building book, and I have read it.
It looks like he mostly plans on boats to be all cut pieces and welded.
That's great for big boats or even for some small boats, but braking seems
like it would make more sense if you have access to a brake big enough.

Trolling motor question
rec.boats.building - 2 hours 47 min ago
Hey all,
We have a 2000 caravelle 176 open bow and my dad wants to install a
trolling motor. He got a Minnkota transom mount with 54" length (prop
to motor) and planned to just clamp it on the fiberglass siderails
behind driver or passenger seats. The problem is the siderails are
tapered at the top where the tonneau cover goes and the trolling motor

Any recommendations on bedding metal hardware like cleats and stem bands

adhesive as well. Any thoughts?

Finishing new wood
rec.boats.building - 2 hours 47 min ago
I am preparing to varnish the rails thwart and deck of a newly
constructed canoe. Mahogany and Ash. Any advise on when or when not to
use a sealer first? Also, I have seen how varnish can yellow the
appearance of Ash, any advise on maintaining the white appearance of the
wood?

Connecting a Calorifier to a Ford Dorset
rec.boats.building - 2 hours 47 min ago
I have a 4cyl Ford Dorset engine and I want to connect it to the heating
coil in calorifier. I assume the aim is to have the engine cooling water
flowing through the calorifier before it reaches the bowman heat exchanger.
There is, what looks like, a 3/8" bsp plug next to the thermostat housing,

Getting water out of gas tank?
rec.boats.building - 2 hours 47 min ago
Recently my boat got pounded pretty good from behind by a bunch of wind produced
waves. After that it didn't want to run because water got in the breather for
the gas tank. I ran a line from a can of good gas and ran the engine and it
cleared up and began running normally again. I got an electric fuel pump and

Plywood chassis bonded to 'glass body (think "Marcos GT1800") project
rec.boats.building - Mon, 12/19/2011 - 9:05am
I'm working on a project that should make LBC purists and hot-rodders
alike gape, gasp, and guffaw: I have one of Bill Bonadio's "Dio"
splashes of the 1959-60 Bill AMes/Dewey BROhaugh AMBRO fiberglass
bodies, originally intended for a Triumph TR-2/3 chassis or whatever
it would fit on (the body will accomodate wheelbases from 88" to 101",
